Being an alumnus of Viswa-Bharati, Saibal Mitra was keen on doing a project on his alma matra. That's how he began work on The Pilgrimage. It took six years to make the film. Saibal belongs to the first batch of makers who made series or serials for television. He has also made documentaries on Arun Mitra and Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Awards
    Dhakudar Katha has won him Bengal Film Journalists' Association's Best Director award in 2000.
Did You Know?

Saibal has directed a documentary titled Dhakudar Katha. Dhakuda was the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) MP Tridib Chaudhuri. The film was commissioned by RSP with film-maker Goutam Ghose being its presenter.
