JG, as he loved to sign off, was born in 1946. After studying in St Xavier's College, he then enrolled into Jadavpur University. "At the university, he virtually attained the status of a hero as a Man of Letters. In the canteen and coffee house, he would declare that he wanted to turn JU into Sorbonne. The reference was, however, to the iconic student movement! He once told the dean of Arts, who had accosted him for smoking in the college building. He told him: 'Don't try to be lackadezical! Awards
    • At the 34th National Awards that celebrated the best of Indian cinema for 1986, Jagannath won a Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) for Mitraniketan Vellanad in the Best Educational/Motivational film category. The citation mentioned that the award was given for "effectively bringing into focus the services of an institution engaged in tackling the rural problems at the grass roots level".
Did You Know?

He was quite sought after as a voice over artist. According to his associates, he must have lent his voice to 5,000 films. He also freelanced as a copywriter for ad agencies. There are a few plays to his credit as well. He also served as an advisor to the Jigir Theatre group.
