Awards
    • His Chhapakhanar Bangla Haraf, produced by Shreemati Chatterjee and Chandrika Bhattacharjee, won the Best Historical Reconstruction/Compilation Film at the 37th National Awards for the best cinema in 1989. The Silver Lotus (Rajat Kamal) was given for "achieving a creative blend of research and imagination in depicting the history of Bengali printing".
    • His Graven Image, produced by Sumitendra Nath Tagore and Shyamasree Tagore, won the Best Non-Feature Film at the 38th National Awards for the best cinema of 1990. The Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamal) was given for "combining the intimate portrayal of a sculptor in terms of biographical detail, bringing in the nuances of his art, summing up to an excellent portrait of a person, an artist, a period, and achieving this with high cinematic values".
    • His In Search of Indian Theatre won the Best Non-Feature Film at the 40th National Awards for best cinema of 1992. The Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamal) was given for "a deep and sensitive insight into contemporary Indian theatre".

In 1988, he directed People's Participation on Ganga Action Plan. It was a 30-minute-long non-fiction film that was produced by Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). In the same year, he also directed the 30-minute-long non-fiction film titled Ganga Action Plan. Ten years later, he directed Door Gaye Durga. It was a 12-episode non-fiction television serial on Durga Puja. The programme was telecast between September 27 and October 7, 2000. He also directed Theatre Theatre - a 10-episode non-fiction television serial on Nandikar's Theatre Festival. The programme was telecast between December 16 and 26, 2000.
Directing non-fiction serials has also interested Abhijit. He has directed Sopan (15-episode non-fiction television serial on career guidance), Durgar Ghar Dor (12-episode non-fiction television serial on Durga Puja), District Personality (24-episode non-fiction television serial on Nakshi Katha) and Durgar Santan Santati (a five-episode non-fiction television serial on Durga Puja).
