A history graduate and a self-taught filmmaker, Sourabh Kanti Dutta has worked in many genres of films/television/entertainment and documentaries in a career spanning over two decades.     • At the 65th National Film Award in 2017, I Am Bonnie received a Silver Lotus for the Best Film on Social Issues. 
    • It won the Best Documentary Award at the 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival in 2017.
    • It also won the Pramod Pati Jury Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival in 2018.
    • It also received the Satyajit Ray Silver Award at SASFF 2019 that is organized by Federation of Film Societies of India.
    • It was also adjudged the Best Documentary at the 5th Smita Patil International Film Festival, 2017.
    • Fatima was adjudged the Most Developed Project Award  at Docedge Kolkata in 2018
    • It won the European Documentary Network Award at the Dhaka DocLab in 2018.
    • It received the Jury Award at the 11th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival in 2023.
    • It also got the Best Documentary award at the 9th International Film Festival of Shimla in 2023.
    • It also received the Best Director award at the Mumbai Independent Film Festival 2023.
    • Sourabh himself won the Navroz Contractor Award for Best Documentary Cinematography at Kerala’s IDSFFK in 2019 for Sankha’s documentary titled Longra. The jury citation mentioned: “With its unhurried gaze, often making dialogue or explanation unnecessary, the cinematography of Longra is equally comfortable when turned towards people or to nature, and an essential element of the way the film works".

Apart from taking active part in the editing of his own films, he has worked as the associate editor to prominent director Sourav Sarangi in his latest documentary, The Tiger Army (2023).
