A small-town girl from West Bengal, Farha Khatun has come a long way to becoming one of the prominent young voices of documentary film-making in India. Her early childhood was spent schooling in four schools in different parts of Medinipur, beginning with the town of Digha, followed by Contai and finally, Belda. She completed her undergraduate studies from Belda College but her true calling was cinema and editing, which inevitably brought her to Kolkata.

    • At the 65th National Film Award in 2017, I Am Bonnie received the Best Film on Social Issues.
    • It won the Best Documentary Award at the 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival in 2017. 
    • It also won the Pramod Pati Jury Award at the Mumbai International Film Festival in 2018.
    • It also received the Satyajit Ray Silver Award at SASFF 2019 that is organized by Federation of Film Societies of India.
    • It was also adjudged the Best Documentary at the 5th Smita Patil International Film Festival, 2017.
    • At the 67th National Award, Holy Rights won the Best Film on Social Issues.
    • It also won the National Laadli media and advertising award for Gender Sensitivity 2020. 
    • It won the Impact Award and Best Cinematography Award at the Vancouver International Women Film Festival. 
    • It was also the winner of International Documentary Long at Regina International Film Festival and Awards (RIFFA). 
    • Ripples Under the Skin won the Best Short Documentary at 12th Queens World Film Festival in USA. 
    • It also received the Satyajit Ray Silver Award for the second Best Documentary and Mrinal Sen Golden Award for the Best Direction in Documentary at 5th South Asian Short Film Festival. 
    • The film also got the Best Documentary award at 8th International Film Festival of Shimla.
Did You Know?

Farha was the lead actor in Debalina’s If You Dare Desire. She has also received the best actress award at Pune International Queer Film Festival for the film.
