After completing her Masters degree in Film Studies from Kolkata’s Jadavpur University, Sreemoyee went on to pursue a PhD on “The Exiled Filmmaker in Post Revolution Iranian Cinema”. Her bond with Iran resulted in the making of the critically acclaimed feature length documentary, And, Towards Happy Alleys (Be Kucheye Khoshbakht). Sreemoyee holds the record of being the first director of non-Iranian origin who has shot a documentary in Iran after having learnt Persian. The world premiere of her documentary was held at the Berlinale International Film Festival (Panorama) in 2023.
