Subha Das Mollick

An independent filmmaker, Subha Das Mollick is a visiting faculty at the Aliah University and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. A post graduate in physics from Delhi University in 1979, Subha did a diploma in film production from Xavier Institute of Communications (Mumbai) in 1989. She taught physics at Mumbai's St. Xavier's College from 1983 to 1986. In the next two years, she taught postgraduate students of physics at New Delhi's Mother's International School. Subsequently, from 1988 to 1995, she was a lecturer in physics at Mumbai's St. Xavier's College. Awards
    • The Singularity of Amal Roychowdhuri won the best programme for teachers award at the UGC CEC Video Fest in 1998. 
    • In 1999, Subha received the best formative research award for Birbhum Terracotta at the UGC CEC Video Fest. 
    • In 2010, she bagged the best programme of the year award for Sound & Image at the UGC CEC video fest. 
    • In 2011, she was awarded a citation for the programmes - History of Sound Recording I & II - at Vigyan Chalchitra held at Chennai.
    • In 2018, her Calcutta Sonata received the best documentary award at the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival and Satyajit Ray Silver Award at the first South Asian Short Film Festival. The same film won the UGC CEC Award Best Programme of the Year 2019. The Siliguri International Short Film Festival Award Best Documentary of the Year 2019 was also awarded to the same film.
    • Subha has been a recipient of the Bronze Beaver Award for Promising Plastic Polymers at the National Science Film Festival, January 2019.
Did You Know?

Subha has conducted a six-day filmmaking workshop with underprivileged children. At the end of the workshop, six films on plastic waste management were made. In 2015, she conducted 10 workshops on digital photography with underprivileged children. The photographs taken by the children were displayed at an exhibition titled Creatures in the Concrete Jungle. From 2011, she has been the founder secretary of Bichitra Pathshala, an organization committed to promoting learning with moving images. With 25 Kolkata schools, she has also been conducting a year-long project titled The Magic of my School.
