Madan

The Madans in Bengal had made a number of documentaries/news reels before driving into the arena of feature films. The Elphinstone Bioscope Company captured the historic procession in Kolkata against the proposed partition of Bengal by Lord Curzon in 1905. The film was directed by Jyotish Sarkar. The very next year (1906), it elaborately documented Prince of Welles's trip to Kolkata. They acquired special permission from police to capture the scenes of Prince getting down at the Princep Ghat, his visit to the Race Course, the laying of the foundation stones for the Victoria Memorial, the imperial parades and so on.
