Gautam Chattopadhyay always wanted to be a film-maker. In the 50 years of his life where he directed four feature films (Nagmoti, Shomoy, Letter To Mom and Rongbin), the cult musician was also a prolific documentary maker. Unfortunately, most of his documentary works are not available for viewing now.In 1979, he had worked as an associate for Georges Luneau's Le chant des fous (Songs of the Madmen). Awards
    • While he received a National Award for Nagmoti, Gautam didn't bother to apply for awards as far as his documentaries are concerned.
Did You Know?

A contemporary dancer from Canada, Kaberi Das had come down to study at the Jadavpur University. Gautam had cast her in the protagonist's role for his feature film titled Shomoy. It was with her that he directed a documentary on Indian contemporary dance form for Doordarshan.
