Abhijay Karlekar was interested in theatre during college, and had directed plays like Zoo Story (Albee), War (Van Itallie) and Bed Bug (Mayakovsky). After college, he was briefly in advertising as a copy writer for (Hindustan Thompson Associates) HTA, first in Kolkata and then Chennai.
