Ustad Bahadur Khan

Sarod maestro Ustad Bahadur Khan was born in Bangladesh’s Brahmanbaria. At a young age, he shifted to Maihar where he lived with his uncle, Baba Allauddin Khan. Later, he shifted to Mumbai where he rose to prominence for having composed the music for Shanti Bardhan’s ballet. The Kolkata chapter began later. He followed in the footsteps of his cousin, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, when the latter shifted to Kolkata in 1956. Khan settled in a flat on 12/2/1 on Palm Avenue. It was here in this flat that he scored the music for Ritwik Ghatak’s films. Khan lived here till his demise in 1989. That old flat has long been demolised. In its place now stands an apartment.
