Uttam Kumar

It is thanks to Uttam Kumar that the name of Girish Mukherjee Road has made a permanent space in every Bengali's diary. That's the address of Uttam Kumar's ancestral house. That house saw the metamorphosis of Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay to one of Bengal's biggest matinee idols. This house saw his matrimonial alliance with Gouri Devi. Tarun Kumar-Subrata Chattopadhyay also lived there after their wedding. It was in the 1960s that Uttam Kumar started living in Supriya Devi's Moira Street residence. His dream house in Alipore had to be sold off during the debacle of Chhoti Si Mulaqat. However, Loudon Street's Maruti Building and the garden house in Chhoto Jagulia remained. And then, there is his maternal uncle's house in Ahiritola. That is where Uttam Kumar was born.
