An ardent admirer of Charlie Chaplin, Jwahar Roy's early years were spent in Patna. The desire to act like Chaplin brought him to Kolkata. His wife stayed back in Patna. College Street became his permanent address in this city. Jwahar used to buy a lot of books. They were kept in Patuatola's Amiya Niwas messing accommodation. In fact, this place actually became popular because of the Jwahar Roy connection.
