What is known as Moonlight Cinema today used to be the Imperial Theatre of the Madans. Since the 1920s, plays and movies were both shown there. The last theatre built by Madans in Kolkata that still exists is this white building. The Madans have long left Kolkata. The cinema changed its name to Moonlight in 1967 after the new owner Shyamnarayan Kole took over. These days, Moonlight is primarily a venue for screening Bhojpuri cinema.
