Minerva was built in the same premises where once stood the Great National Theatre. On January 31, 1897, Mister Sullivan’s nimatograph was exhibited in place of a play. That was the first time Bengal watched a bioscope. Classic Theatre also followed in the footsteps of Minerva.
Did You Know?
This theatre got gutted in a fire in 1922. It was rebuilt. The second innings began from 1925. Utpal Dutt used to regularly stage plays there. Girish Ghosh’s last outing on stage was at Minerva.
