Previous Name : Pearl Cinema, Ruby, Rounak Mahal
This cinema was named Pearl in the end of the 1920s. Primarily, it was meant for English movies. The ownership changed hands a number of times over the years. Mansata Pictures’ head and the Duttas had taken the responsibility to run it in the 1940s. Their office address was the Jyoti cinema premises too. Jyoti gained prominence by screening Sholay in the 70 mm screen. During the 1970s, this was the only single screen theatre in Kolkata to have a big screen. South Pacific was the first film to be shown on the 70 mm screen. The single screen was gutted in a huge fire in October 2016.
