Curzon Theatre (1904), Grand (1905), New Classic (1906), Alfred Theatre (1910), Mitra Theatre (1926), Natya Bharati (1939)… All these were monikers of the auditorium that transformed into a single screen in the 1940s. Back then, it was named Deepak. Its name was changed to Grace in 1953. RD Bansal, founder of RDB & Co. came to Kolkata at the young age of 16 only to expand their family business of marble stones. Soon, he was attracted to the business of cinema. In 1953, Bansal took up the reins of Grace Cinema. At first, he only worked in film exhibition. Subsequently, he followed up with film distribution and formed Grace Pictures in 1957. Grace downed its shutters sometime in 2009-2010.
