Globe’s tryst with theatre dates back to the mid 19th century. The British had taken on the responsibility to build a hall named Grand Opera in 1867. Both British and Indian plays were staged here. The Madans started screening their own productions here in 1922. Back in the day, it was called the Opera House. Globe got its name three years later, in 1925. The ownership went to Mumbai’s Globe Theatres Private Limited. Priya’s Arijit Dutta took lease of the cinema in 2000. The lease ended in 2006. In 2023, Globe now hosts a shopping arcade. The big screen has returned here since the Pujas of 2024.
