This cinema’s name is associated with the grand old man of Bengali cinema — Hiralal Sen. A gentleman named Ram Dutta had wanted to build a cinema. Immediately after resigning from the London Bioscope Company, Hiralal joined hands with him to start this venture. The cinema was originally called Show House. Hiralal’s brother, Motilal, later took its lease. He joined hands with Haridas Ghosh, the owner of Sulabh Press, to renovate this cinema. It was then renamed as Cinema Salon. In 1931, the ownership changed and the cinema was called Ganesh Talkies.
