Politician Biren Roy had built Ajanta cinema in Behala. He was upset when this property got litigated. When Makhanlal Saha went to buy this theatre from him in 1972, he told them that he had got so upset with the litigation that he had decided to build another cinema. He had named it Ellora. Biren had offered to sell Ellora to Makhanlal. But Makhanlal wasn't keen at that point in time. Subsequently, Biren formed a trust called Hind Exhibitor. It had many partners. In 2017-2018, Ratan Saha became a partner at Hind Exhibitor. At that time, the trust had two other partners but the hall was shut because of labour issues. Saha took the initiative to reopen it then. It had run for three years but labour problems staeted again. The hall was shut down again and the case went to the Labour Commission.
