Ahindra Mancha was built after the Left Front government came to power in Bengal. Initially, it functioned only as a space for staging plays. Ahindra Chowdhury lived close by. The theatre was named after the Natyasurya. In the mid-1990s, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation converted it into a theatre for screening movies. But the dwindling footfall at single screens in general did took a toll on Ahindra Mancha too. In 2023, this theatre is under renovation and is being used for other purposes.
