The Madans had taken over the Empress Theatre. It is still unclear when this hall was built. Priyanath Gangopadhyay’s Durgeshnandini was screened here in 1928. Thereafter, it became a regular film exhibition venue for the Madan productions. The ownership changed hands in 1935. The theatre was then renamed as Sukalyani. Rupali became its moniker later on.
